Cañon City is the home of the world famous Royal Gorge Bridge and Park. The bridge is suspended 1000 feet above the Arkansas River. The park, owned by Cañon City, produces income for the city, which greatly moderates the property taxes in Cañon City—keeping it one of the most affordable communities in which to own a home in the entire state.

Cañon City boasts six elementary schools, two middle schools and two high schools as well as a charter school for grades K through eight. The campus for Pueblo Community College—Fremont County is located just west of the city. A modern hospital, which has recently undergone an $18 million renovation, serves the medical needs for the county. Additionally, a physician-owned surgery center has also recently opened. There are numerous fitness centers and a more-than-adequate selection of family practitioners and specialists in the county.
