 | Fremont County 4-H Program Fremont
County has an active 4-H program, consisting of around 400 traditional
members in 20 clubs, more than 100 non-traditional members, and more
than 100 volunteers. The families who are involved participate in a
variety of wholesome activities throughout the year. Children learn
leadership skills, citizenship, and community service, while they are
working to complete their chosen 4-H projects. Along the way they are
mentored by the many volunteers who are committed to youth development.
Fremont County 4-H holds an important presence in both rural and urban
Fremont County. | Cloverbud members
are ages 5 to 7 years. They participate in non-competitive, exploratory
activities. They do not do animal projects or shooting sports. Regular
4-H members are ages 8 to 18 years old. They can choose from a large
variety of projects. More than half of our members participate in
animal projects. Animal projects include rabbits, poultry, sheep,
goats, swine, beef, dog obedience and horse. Shooting Sports is the
largest single project. Shooting Sports members learn skills in
archery, muzzle loading, .22 rifle, air rifle, or shotgun. All of our
Shooting Sports leaders are trained and certified through Colorado
State 4-H Shooting Sports training program.
New volunteers are
welcomed into our 4-H program. All of the volunteers who work with the
4-H program in Fremont County are carefully screened and background
checked. Training is provided by Colorado State University Cooperative
Extension Office staff. Our 4-H program is strong because of the high
level of support from across Fremont County.
